Kyourk (Kev) Arslanian (BAPG ‘26)
Kev’s journey to the Politics and Governance program was driven by determination and a deep desire to understand the forces that shape politics. Born and raised in Syria, he witnessed the impact of war at a young age, sparking questions about politics that went far beyond daily life. Initially enrolled in General Medicine at Yerevan State Medical University, Kev’s academic path took a dramatic turn during the COVID-19 lockdown, when he began reflecting on his true passions.
Deciding to pursue politics was a leap into the unknown – one not guided by family expectations but by personal conviction. His first application to AUA’s BAPG program was unsuccessful, but rather than give up, Kev immersed himself in online political courses and debates, preparing to try again. On his second attempt, he was admitted, a moment he describes as the beginning of the journey he had dreamed of.
One of Kev’s most memorable experiences was being nominated for an Erasmus exchange at Freie Universität Berlin. As a Syrian citizen, opportunities to study abroad once felt out of reach, making this achievement even more meaningful.
Kev’s goals continue to evolve, but he is committed to reaching the PhD level and exploring both academic and professional opportunities in politics. Inspired by his professors, he sees politics not only as a field of study but as a way to understand and address the challenges and legacy of politics in human life.
His advice to future BAPG students: connect deeply with your professors, make use of office hours, and focus not only on grades but on building relationships that will inspire and guide you long after graduation.
