Mari Mkrtchyan (BAPG ’26)
I chose the BAPG program out of a sincere curiosity about how governmental and international systems function and why political events unfold in particular contexts. I am especially interested in understanding the conditions that shape state decisions, institutional responses, and international outcomes. For me, studying politics is about developing the analytical perspective needed to interpret complex realities and contribute responsibly to Armenia’s democratic development.
Currently, I complement my academic work with diverse professional and creative experiences. During my internship at USAID in the Development Outreach and Communications section, I gained firsthand insight into international development programs and the internal structure of a major governmental agency, translating theory into practice. My artistic achievements have also been recognized with the Best Design: Martiros Saryan Prize, awarded by the Vahe and Lucie Foundation for a piece reflecting post-Artsakh War themes and exploring memory and resilience through symbolism. I further contribute as an illustrator to The Highlander student magazine, visually interpreting student narratives. In addition, I work as a Content Writer at Wirestock, supporting AI dataset development and improving artificial intelligence systems.
My advice to future students is to remain curious and thoughtful, always seeking to understand and explore new ideas, perspectives, and opportunities.
